11 January 2012 ….. another busy day …. visitors from Germany this morning .. trainers this afternoon

A somewhat quieter day on the farm today – though, still quite hectic.

This morning we had some visitors from Germany come to the farm, and this afternoon have two prominent trainers scheduled to view the yearlings bound for the Cape Premier Yearling Sale at the end of the month.

One of our German visitors with the impeccably (as always) mannered SILVANO (GER)

As can be seen from the photograph above, SILVANO has quite the most incredible manners – testament to the handling he received by the legendary Monty Roberts who breaks in the Gestüt Fährhof yearlings.

Moving on to the yearlings …..  with our draft for the sale including no less than eight SILVANO (GER) yearlings, and five by JET MASTER, the interest in strong.

A few of our yearling colts lining up for a 'viewing'

Other major stallions represeented in our draft include BLACK MINNALOUSHE (USA) with three, DYNASTY (SAf) with two, VAR (USA), FORT WOOD (USA), HORSE CHESTNUT (SAf), and COUNT DUBOIS (GB) amongst others.

Tomorrow we hope to be able to bring some early morning news and photos of the yearlings being exercised.

About mainechancefarms

Maine Chance Farms is one of South Africa's premier stud farms and is perennially amongst the top breeders at season's end. Established in the late 1960's by Godfrey Gird, the farm passed into the ownership of Graham Beck (subsequently also the owner of Gainesway Farm in Ky) in the 70's. Keeping up with the international connection, Andreas Jacobs from Germany purchased Maine Chance Farms in 2002. He also has the famed Gestüt Fährhof and Newsells Park Stud, in England, in his 'stable' of stud farms. The stud stands world-class stallions such as SILVANO (GER) and BLACK MINNALOUSHE (USA), who were recently joined by LATERAL(GB) Champion German 3YO, and Champion Miler in 2006; as well as QUERARI (GER), the joint top-rated older horse in Germany in 2010.
